Our ‘Creative Drama’ course is a unique offering in the Erasmus teacher training series, designed to bring an innovative twist to traditional teaching methods. This course is specially tailored for educators who wish to incorporate elements of drama and creativity into their teaching practice, thereby transforming the learning experience for their students.
Creative drama is an instructional method that combines elements of drama, play, and improvisation to enhance the learning process. It’s not just about teaching drama as a subject; it’s about using dramatic techniques to teach a wide range of subjects more effectively. In this course, educators will explore how to use role-play, storytelling, improvisation, and other drama techniques to create an engaging and dynamic learning environment.
We start by introducing the fundamentals of creative drama, including its history, theoretical underpinnings, and key techniques. Participants will learn how to create a safe and supportive environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves through dramatic activities. The course will also cover how to use creative drama to teach various subjects, from language arts to science and social studies.
Beyond the basics, the course delves into more advanced topics such as using creative drama for social and emotional learning, developing empathy and understanding among students, and fostering a collaborative classroom culture. Participants will also learn how to assess student learning and progress in a creative drama setting, a crucial skill for any educator.
Throughout the course, hands-on workshops and interactive sessions will allow educators to practice the techniques they learn, giving them the confidence to implement creative drama strategies in their own classrooms. These sessions are designed to be highly participatory and reflective, ensuring that participants can adapt what they learn to their unique teaching contexts.
By the end of this course, educators will have a toolkit of creative drama strategies to enhance their teaching and engage their students more deeply. They will be able to create lesson plans that not only convey academic content but also foster creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. Whether teaching in a traditional classroom or in more informal educational settings, participants will be prepared to bring the power of creative drama to their students.
